The English poet William Wordsworth romantically evokes nature: ˝… Though nothing can bring back the hour of splendor in the grass, of glory in the flower; we will grieve not, rather find strength in what remains behind…˝ (Imitation of Immortality from Recollection of Early Childhood).
But why should we be content with what remains behind, if we can afford the magic, the splendor and the magnificence of flower and trees of Arboretum Volčji Potok, where there grow approximately 2500 species and varieties of evergreen and caduceus trees, as well as 300 varieties of green plants. The number of flowers, annual and multi-annual plants grows year by year. The most admired are evermore the magnificent roses and the rhododendrons. Arboretum begins its history with the illustrious and enlightened citizen of Ljubljana, Ferdinand Souvan, who in 1882 bought the estate and started the restructuring of the park, according to the architectural style of French parks. His work has been carried on by the best gardeners and architects of Slovenian parks, bringing about a new urban gust. Arboretum is still the only botanical garden of Slovenia for woody plants and a cultural monument of national relevance.
